Counter Service Lunch at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort – Day One

For our first meal at Disney World, we were very hungry and a bit overwhelmed with figuring out the choices for the Counter Service Dining Plan.  We didn’t utilize it to its best at this point, specifically with the kids’ drinks.

Kid’s Meal One – Macaroni and Cheese

Included –

  • macaroni and cheese
  • chocolate chip cookie
  • carrots
  • chocolate milk

Kid’s Meal Two – Pizza

  • Kid’s Cheese Pizza
  • Applesauce
  • Cookie
  • Chocolate Milk

Kid’s Meal Three – Pizza

  • Kid’s Cheese Pizza
  • Grapes
  • Cookie
  • Chocolate Milk

Adult Meal One (Me) – Fish Basket

  • Fish and fries
  • Cranberry/Apple/Raspberry Juice (which I took back to the room for later)
  • Grapes (I would have chosen a less healthy dessert, but the worker explaining our options said something like – “Well, you can choose something UNhealthy over there . . . or fruit over here.”)

Adult Meal Two (Hubby) – Muffaletta

  • Muffaletta with chips
  • Grapefruit juice (for later)
  • Fruit bowl (He chose his for the right reasons!)

The kids all loved their pizzas and were satisfied.  Hubby’s muffaletta was great and my fish was surprisingly fresh-tasting and good.  (I know, it’s what I ordered and yet somehow I was surprised it was good.)

Counter Service Dining – Breakfast at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort (Snack Credits)

For our first breakfast, the kids ate granola bars and and pop-tarts that we brought from home.  (Stay tuned and you’ll see how UNnecessary this was.)

We used our Resort Refillable Mugs to get “free” coffee for hubby and me and hot chocolate for the kids.

Using snack credits, I got a cinnamon roll and hubby got a bagel with cream cheese.

Ummmm, that cinnamon roll was fantastic.  As in, one of the best I’ve ever eaten.  It seemed to be made of puff-pastry rather than regular dough.  And I’m sure that all of the airiness meant that it was low calorie.

Right?

Why yes.  There IS a bite or two out of that cinnamon roll.

Day two, and I was still getting used to this oh-so-I-should-really-take-a-picture-and-THEN-start-eating thing.

Quick Service (Counter) Dining Plan Dinner at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort

Following our afternoon swim, we decided to eat dinner at the resort before heading back to Magic Kingdom.

The boys had no desire to try something new.  They loved the pizza at the resort.  (Keep reading and you’ll see a trend.)

  • Pizza
  • Cookie
  • Applesauce
  • Chocolate Milk (for the next morning)

Girl:

  • Turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy
  • Cornbread
  • Bagged carrots

I had the roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread, and corn.  For dessert, I got a Mickey Mouse rice-krispie treat on a stick.  (They also have ones partially dipped in chocolate.)

Hubby tried out the pasta bar.  You have a choice of types of pasta (penne, fettucine, etc.) sauces (alfredo, marinara, pesto, etc.) meat (chicken or shrimp), and a variety of other ingredients including spinach, mushrooms, olives, artichoke hearts, onions, tomatoes, etc.  They cook all of the fresh ingredients in front of you and combine them.  This also comes with a slice of bread.

He chose a banana as his “dessert” to have for breakfast the next day.

Show-off.

Hubby and I really loved our meals.  And we had plenty. We were full enough that I didn’t even eat my Mickey Krispy treat after we got back to the room that night.  Well, except for one ear.

By using our refillable mugs for our drinks, we had all of this to take back to the room.

Our Day 2 Breakfast – Disney’s Quick/Counter Service Dining Plan

Hubby and I had coffee in our resort refillable mugs, and the kids had hot chocolate in theirs.

The kids ate walmart’s-version-of-pop-tarts with the milk that they got with their supper the night before.

I had a granola bar with my milk, and hubby had his banana and one of the shortbreads from the Yorkshire County Fish Shop.

I promise, breakfasts did get better once we figured out how to best use our plan.

Counter Service Dining Plan Snack Credits – Ice Cream Treats

I know.  I also had high hopes that my lousy food photography days were over.

Oh well.

After our big (big doesn’t really describe it) not-included-in-the-Counter-Service-Dining-Plan breakfast at Chef Mickey’s, we had a fun morning at the Magic Kingdom and then headed back to the resort for the afternoon.

For our snacks, we headed to the bakery area of Disney’s Port Orleans Resort dining area for ice cream, using our snack credits.

My daughter had a popsicle.  My 9yo had a 2-to-1 chocolate cone.  I had a vanilla milkshake and my 7yo had a mint chocolate chip milkshake.

A 2-to-1 cone is one that starts out as a double dip but then ends up as a single when the top scoop drops onto the floor.

Like I said, all of these (including the double-dip cone) counted for snack credits.

Breakfast Day 5 – Disney’s Quick/Counter Service Dining Plan

A normal morning for our trip so far.  The kids had hot chocolate in their refillable mugs, and hubby and I had coffee.

The kids and I each had a fabulous cinnamon roll, and hubby had a bagel with cream cheese.

Each of those items used one snack credit.

Yes.  Again with the bitten-before-photographed cinnamon roll.

Sorry.

Disney’s Quick Service Dining Plan – Dinner Day 5

We had decided to make it an early night and eat at our resort.  (The kids LOVED eating at the resort.)

We did have dinner at the resort, but it wasn’t an early night.  Oh well, it was vacation.

The boys each had pizza (mmm-hmmm, the same thing they had for lunch that day, and  —– the day before, and . . . ).

My daughter had chicken nuggets with fries and carrots.

Hubby had chicken strips/nuggets/whatever with fries, a Mickey Krispy treat, and o.j. to save for the next morning.

I had planned to be good and get a salad, buuuuttt . . . I was famished since we were eating so late.  I chose instead, to do the wisest thing possible and load up on carbs right before going to bed.

I had the made-to-order pasta.  I chose fettucine, alfredo sauce, spinach, artichoke hearts and shrimp.

Mmmmm.

I did share it with hubby and the kids.

I also got a rice-krispy treat and milk for the morning.

Using Snack Credits for Breakfast on Disney’s Quick/Counter Service Dining Plan

It was Friday morning.  Our last full day at Disney World, and we had, ummm . . . a lot of snack credits left to use.

For breakfast, hubby ordered a bagel, the kids each got a cinnamon roll, and I had a blueberry muffin.  We also got a bowl of fruit to share, and hubby had his banana that was his dessert with dinner the night before.  We drank coffee and hot chocolate from our refillable mugs and the milk from Thursday’s dinner at the resort.

This used up six snack credits.

Final Morning Breakfast on Disney’s Quick/Counter Service Dining Plan

We slept late.

For our final morning at Disney World, we weren’t planning to go anywhere other than to the pool.  Instead of hubby and the boys making a run to the Port Orleans Resort cafeteria to pick up breakfast goodies using our snack credits, we all went.

We let the kids each choose something from the bakery counter.

They chose:

A chocolate muffin.

Two chocolate croissants.

I chose a cream cheese Danish.

Hubby . . . had a bagel with cream cheese.  Shocker.

Since we had one extra meal credit (because I only used a snack credit for my chicken fried rice lunch at Animal Kingdom), we ordered one Bounty Breakfast Platter (which comes with French toast or pancakes) to share as a family in addition to our snack-credit pastries.

I had the milk that came with the Bounty Platter, the kids had hot chocolate in their refillable mugs, and hubby had coffee in his.

One Last Lunch on Disney’s Quick (Counter) Service Dining Plan

After we spent the morning swimming and frantically packing up our messy room, we loaded our Suburban and headed off to the Port Orleans Resort Dining Area for our last meal on Disney’s Quick Service Dining Plan.

I finally tried the salad.  And, as my life of irony generally goes, decided that it was my very favorite thing and that if I had known how fabulous it was, I would have ordered it every time I was in there.

Mmm-hmm.

The salads are prepared to order.  You choose between romaine lettuce or a European mix.  You then choose chicken or beef, type of dressing, and any or all of a number of toppings.  They assemble your salad individually in a large, clean stainless steel bowl, toss it with the dressing of your choice, and transfer it to your lidded take-away container.

Here’s the thing.  I love salad, but when I eat out, I’m generally left picking around ingredients that I don’t love.  Here, I chose the things I wanted in the salad, so I ate every single last bite.

And had to talk myself out of licking the bowl.

I had dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, olives, etc.  Mmmmm.  I chose apple slices for my dessert.

Hubby tried the beef and blue cheese sandwich on grilled ciabatta bread and a banana as his dessert.  He loved it.

We both got bottles of Powerade as our drinks to save for the trip home.

The kids all ordered . . . any guesses?

Pizza. (With apple-juice to save for the ride home.)

Surprise, surprise.
